Zenon (Greece)

www.zenon.grk

Zenon was founded in 1987 to promote automation and robotic technologies to the Greek industry by developing a World-Class research centre in robotics. The company specialises in industrial robotics, computer vision and CIM. Over the last three years, Zenon succeeded in completing more than 50 contracts within a broad range of industrial sectors. NDT, furnishings, exhaust pipe and pressure tank welding, electronic and electromechanical assembly, brass castings and turbine blade grinding, vehicle body painting as well as chocolate and hamburger packaging account for some of Zenon's industrial robot installations. Computer vision based automation and process control systems, data collection systems, and image archiving platforms complete the activity spectrum of the company.
Zenon has remained at the forefront of technological innovation, despite strong rivalry from global competitors in all industries. To maintain this lead Zenon regularly participate in European R&D programs such as CRAFT, ESPRIT, RACE, BRITE and EUREKA that provide a research capability beyond the means usually available to companies of this size. Zenon's commitment was rewarded by the development of a worldwide innovative robot grinding system based on a force controlled servo tool, conceived, developed and patented by Zenon. As the leader in Greece, and amongst the elite in Europe regarding advanced robotics, the Zenon name has become associated with the introduction of robots into industry and with innovation in the area of automation.

Reasons for participating
The "ReNEWiT" project will enable Zenon to target a new and high growth market sector - i.e. accurate inspection of large area surfaces using autonomous robotics.

Role in the project
WP-E Manager: PSC: Again, The substantial experience that Zenon has with CRAFT, ESPRIT, RACE, BRITE and EUREKA projects, through collaboration and co-ordination of completed and current research projects, will be relevant for the co-ordination of horizontal actions. On the technical side, Zenon will get involved in the development of the scanner module, which will carry the NDT sensors and systems and the development of the mobile robot vehicle. This project will enable Zenon to diversify its portfolio and add a new product range to the company's robotic products. Zenon intends to increase its sales using this system and attempt to enter the huge Wind Turbine market available through the private and public sectors in the US. The research carried out here will also permeate into other robotic systems developed by Zenon.
